CAPE SWIMMERS SHINE AT FLAGS

Results of the 2021 Florida Swimming Age Group South Championships in Sarasota are in, and our three FLAG swimmers had a great meet. Hayden Tedhams (13) dropped 4.67 seconds in the 800m Freestyle (9:24.23) finishing eighth. In the 400m Free Hayden dropped 4.01 seconds (4:33.44) and was 9th overall. On the last day of the meet Hayden continued to show his long-distance ability, dropping 21.10 seconds in the 1500m Freestyle hitting the touch pad in 4th place (17:46.43). Taylor Tedhams (10) lowered her best time in the 200m Freestyle by 1.37 seconds (2:49.39), finishing 10th. Taylor led off the Swim Florida 200m Medley Relay with a FLAG cut time of 41.69 (-.58) also on the relay was Lexi Bulawan (10) [Breaststroke], Bethany Wang (10) [Butterfly] and Isabella Figueroa (10) [Freestyle]. The relay splashed home in second place (2:40.34). Taylor also teamed up with Lexi, Isabella, and Bethany to capture third place in the 10 & Under 200m Freestyle Relay (2:25.46). Bethany Wang dropped 1.48 seconds finishing 5th in the 200m Free (2:40.97), finished 2nd in the 100m Breaststroke (1:33.10), lowered her 100m Butterfly by .86 (1:27.84) and finished 5th. In the 100m Backstroke Bethany broke the team record set by Lindsey Alexander in 1997, as she lowered her own best time by 3.36 seconds (1:21.09) taking the gold medal. In the 200m Individual Medley Bethany dropped 1.04 seconds (2:56.41) taking the silver medal. Bethany then finished 2nd in the 50m Breaststroke lowering her best by 1.00 seconds (42.57).

Taylor Tedhams gets FLAG and "A" in 50m Backstroke

Taylor Tedhams (10) had many outstanding swims at the 2021 T2 Norris Foundation Meet in Naples over the Memorial Day weekend. One that got her really excited was in the finals for the 50m Backstroke where she hit the touch pad with a personal best time of 42.27. This effort earned her a FLAG cut and an “A” National Motivational time. Ta had a total of 10 best times including her first 800m Freestyle. Well done TA!!!

Well done, and best wishes to our 2021 Spring Championship Swimmers!!! FLAGS (St. Petersburg): Sophie Pellegrino, Hayden Tedhams and Bethany Wang. Senior Championships (Clearwater): Didi Adel Rhim, Liam Dugan, Natalie Handzlik, Riley McFarland, and Sophie Pellegrino.
FLAGS: Sophie has the 50, 100 and 200 Breaststroke. Bethany has the 100 Breaststroke, 100 and 200 Individual Medley, 50 and 100 Backstroke and 50 Freestyle. Hayden will swim the 500, 1,000 and 1650 Freestyle and 400 Individual Medley.
Senior Champs: Natalie qualified for the 100 Fly, 50, 100 and 200 Breaststroke, 50 Free and Back and 200 Individual Medley, Riley qualified for the 50 and 100 Fly, 50 and 100 Free, 50 Back and Breast, and 200 Individual Medley. Sophie made the 50, 100 and 200 Breast, 50 and 100 Free, 50 and 100 Back, 50 Fly and 200 Individual Medley. Didi qualified for the 50 Breast, and 50 and 100 Free. Liam made the 50 and 200 Breast, 50, 100 and 200 Fly, 50, 100 and 200 Back, and 200 and 400 Individual Medley.
